Reporting Mold in a Florida Workspace

Table of Contents

If you find mold in your workspace in Florida, it’s important to take appropriate steps to address the issue:

Notify & Document

  1. Notify Your Employer: The first step should be to inform your employer or the building management about the mold discovery. This can be done verbally, but it’s advisable to also provide written notification (such as an email or letter) for documentation purposes.
  2. Document the Issue: Take pictures of the mold and document any communication related to the issue. Keep a record of dates, times, and the content of conversations or correspondence regarding the mold.
  3. Health and Safety Concerns: If you believe the mold is affecting your health, consult a healthcare provider. Keep a record of any health issues you believe are related to mold exposure.
  4. Workplace Safety Regulations: Employers are required to provide a safe working environment. In Florida, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is the federal agency responsible for workplace safety. While OSHA does not have specific mold regulations, employers are still responsible for addressing workplace hazards.
  5. Reporting to OSHA: If your employer does not take appropriate action to address the mold problem, you can file a complaint with OSHA. Complaints can be filed online, via fax/mail, or by telephone.
  6. Get Legal Advice: If you believe that your employer’s negligence in handling the mold situation has caused you harm, you may want to consult with an attorney who specializes in labor law or personal injury to discuss your options. Whether you can sue depends on the circumstances, the extent of the harm caused, and the response of your employer.
  7. Workers’ Compensation: If you have suffered an illness due to mold exposure at work, you might be eligible for workers’ compensation benefits. Contact your state’s workers’ compensation board for more information.
  8. State and Local Health Departments: You can also report the issue to your local or state health department. They can provide guidance on dealing with mold and may inspect the premises.

Act Quickly, Get Legal Advice if Ill

Remember, it’s important to act quickly when you discover mold in your workspace to prevent potential health risks and to ensure the issue is addressed by your employer or building management in a timely manner.

"Out of all of the options in the area, I’m so glad I went with Mold Solutions. They were the only ones that can thoroughly handle my entire problem, including the air conditioning ducts where other companies were telling me I needed 3 to 4 different service people with different bills all coming to my house at different times costing me tons of money. They got everything done in one day. I felt the difference in my health immediately after they finished." — 5-Star Google Review

Mold solutions just remediated mold in my air handler and ductwork throughout my home. They were very thorough. I was impressed with their knowledge of mycotoxins from mold and the seriousness of mold. All of the staff that I interacted with was patient, friendly, helpful and efficient. They kept me informed and I was super happy that the entire home was dry fogged with pet friendly ingredients. My two cats and I had to go out on the patio for 3 hours as the dry fog did it's thing. They kept me informed and let me know when it was perfectly safe to go back inside. Trustworthy, efficient and nice.
