In Florida, mold growth can be a problem year-round due to the our hot and humid climate.
But the worst season for mold growth and mold-related allergies in Florida is typically summer and into the early fall.
This is when temperatures are highest and humidity levels are often greatly elevated, which can create the ideal conditions that mold needs to thrive both indoors and outdoors.
In Summer, people with mold allergies may experience more severe symptoms or more frequent symptoms.
Mold Solutions Gets More Calls for Help in Summer Than Any Other Season
And it’s not just the people that are affected, but the properties: Houses, apartments, offices, etc.
It’s also the time of year that we at Mold Solutions tend to get the most calls from homeowners for help with mold removal or mold remediation.
Okay, So What?
It’s helpful to know that mold in Florida is the worst in Summer for these reasons, because then you can do something effective about it:
- Be sure to close your windows during the worst of Summer’s heat and humidity, because that hot damp air will spur mold growth in your home.
- Keep home temp at a high of 78, and humidity at a high of 50%. Run a ceiling fan or the air conditioner, and aim to keep your home at around 78 degrees (at a high), and the humidity between 30-50 percent, but no higher than 60%.
- If you feel off or ill during the Summer, recognize there is at least a small chance that mold may be affecting you. Of course, see a licensed medical doctor. But from a mold allergy and mold remediation perspective, the longer you stay in an area affected by mold, the more likely it is to impact you or a loved one.
- Fix leaks fast and fully. Leaking pipes and any water spilled should be fixed fast and fully, since they’re like watering mold directly and asking it to grow. If your home or some part of it gets wet, drying it out completely within no more than 48 hours is crucial.
